RGB Garners Two Nominations for the Muddy Awards to be Presented this November

blue-lemonadeThe Rae Gordon Band is proud to announce that two nominations have been announced for Rae Gordon for Best Female Vocalist and for the first CD Release “Blues Lemonade”, written by Rae Gordon and Gaddis Cavenah, guitar player, producer and band director. The Awards Ceremony will be held November 7th at the Melody Ballroom in Portland, Oregon, where Rae Gordon will be performing with the All Star band.

The 2013 Muddy Award nominees are in. Looks like a big year for Kevin Selfe & The Tornadoes and Journey to Memphis winners Ben Rice Band and Tevis Hodge Jr. with numerous nominations each. Kevin Selfe and Ben Rice were nominated by the members in both contemporary and traditional act catagories, so we have left them in place in both. Kevin was also nominated in both NW and National recording catagories. The Hurley Award is nominated by stage crew at the Waterfront Blues Festival. The Waterfront Blues Festival requested to be retired from nomination this year in order for other well deserving events to receive recognition; the Waterfront has own the Muddy every year they have been presented so far (hard to argue with one of the elite blues festivals world wide.) Congratulations to all and good luck.

Blue Lemonade Hits the Charts!

Rae Gordon Band Hits a High Note with Their Very First CD Release on the Charts

Portland, ORE, July 25, 2013 – Rae Gordon, a Cascade Blues Association’s Muddy Award Winner for Best Female Vocalist, has had an amazing year of firsts in 2013. The Rae Gordon Band released their first CD to great reviews and airplay in the US and over the pond to England, while the 4th of July weekend brought them to the big stage at Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival that also featured Robert Plant and Allen Stone. However, the sweetest first to new writing duo Rae Gordon and RGB guitar player Gaddis Cavenah was their February release of originals “Blue Lemonade” hitting the Billboard Blues Charts at number 10 in it’s first week and the week after, right behind Pine Leaf Boys and Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa.

This exciting new development was a highlight to both, who have been playing separately for many years and recently together as a popular band and duo. That all changed on one fateful night when Gordon went to see the Kevin Selfe Band play, but had received the date wrong and ended up at the small Oregon bar watching another band play instead. She dug the guitar player who had some great licks and was a master at slide. Turns out that she was exactly where she needed to be at the right time as they later joined writing forces.

Their much awaited Self Produced CD “Blue Lemonade” of original tunes debuted to a sold out venue and highlights Gordon’s extensive range and ability to move effortlessly from soul to blues infused gospel. Cascade Blues Association’s president Greg Johnson said “They have struck pay dirt in bringing out the beauty of Rae’s vocal abilities”…“Listening to the disc leaves no question on why she is a perennial nominee for female vocalist in the Cascade Blues Association’s Muddy Awards”“Blue Lemonade is a deeply accomplished work with superb original songwriting that stands up to the best releases of recent years anywhere” while Steve Pringle, air personality for KINK FM warns “Mamas lock up your boys, Rae’s on the prowl and her new disc is loaded with everything you could want from a debut album…”

“Blue Lemonade” is currently available on CDBaby.

Rae Gordon, who has been described in the media as ““Add equal parts of Janis Joplin’s pain, Aretha Franklin’s soul and Grace Slick’s power; mix them thoroughly, and add a big gob of gooey molasses and you have Rae Gordon’s voice” started her singing career in the piano bars of Los Angeles and opening up for comedians. Her early experience singing in the comedy clubs on the infamous Sunset Strip gave her an approachability and sense of humor that she brings to audiences today.

The Rae Gordon Band brings together award winning and nominated musicians that have followed her to the big and little stages of northwest’s favorite festivals helping to mold their signature sound that spans from a danceable get up and groove to a haunting slide tone that will make you want to find a back porch and sit a spell. She currently plays the northwest and is working on a west coast tour in the fall and east coast next summer. She is currently looking for management.

Recent release “Blue Lemonade” available on CDBaby at

The writing duo are now planning their next release with the Rae Gordon Band.

Waterfront Blues Fest Time and the Time is Now!

There is an excitement in the air around Portland around the 4th of July.  You can feel it and almost touch it.  It surrounds the whole Portland Metro area like a warm soft blanket that you can snuggle into with all your heart and you down to the tips of your toes.   If you could taste it, it would be like a bowl of the finest ice cream with hot fudge, cool, delicious and so tastefully hot lingering on the tongue like a good blues tune lingers on your ear for days later.

It’s our suspicion that this fluffy squishy warmness full of sound calories is caused by none other than the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, coming on it’s 26th Year!   It was born in 1987 as a concert to support the homeless and has morphed into one of the biggest festivals this side of the Mississippi known as the nation’s premier blues festival benefiting the Oregon Food Bank and making records, financially.  And we have it!!!

This weekend, all Oregonians take a little pride in saying…yeah….we live here and ownership in one of the best 4 days of the whole year.  But there’s something even more incredible that I have seen as both a spectator and an artist on stage for the last 10 years at this festival.    I’ve been so blessed to be a backup singer, a special guest, a volunteer pass checker at a gate and now this year with the Rae Gordon Band, on the Big Coveted Miller Stage, where the sweat of Robert Plant’s brow will splash to the very same floor that we get to perform our original tunes this Friday the 5th!  But, each and every time, I have looked out either from the top of the stage or on the floor and saw familiar faces in the crowd I was overwhelmed with gratitude and a realization, that there another element.

These amazing and awesome faces that us as local musicians faithfully see in the audience at our wine bar gigs, the lounges and even on a 1st Friday event….this big festival is also in honor of you!  We get to see you out in that crowd and thank you for being there, but also for being here and there, locally.  You get to see your local bands on the same stages as famous faces and be a part of this incredible experience and party.

This weekend, this is for you!
